Chapter 30 : Hamish the flying crocodile goes hunting. |

Even higher in the sky a weird
creature hovered. Once Hamish Horseradish had been a chef at the
island’s only hotel, now he was a hungry bird. Hamish had been
following the children for some time. He was not the precision
killing machine that the golden eagle was. In fact heights made
him dizzy and flying made him sick. But now his hunger was
greater than his fear of flying. At the precise moment the eagle
snatched the pigeon, Hamish launched his attack on the children.
He plummeted from the clouds. Suddenly below him was the golden
eagle. Quickly Hamish considered his options; snatch an easy
meal out of the sky or dive bomb the children and risk splatting
himself onto the ground. He chose the easier option.
With a few flaps of his powerful wings he slowed himself down.
He hovered hesitantly alongside the eagle. The two birds stared
at each other. The eagle panicked. It had never seen a flying
crocodile before—in fact it had never seen any crocodile before.
It stopped eating and dropped the remains of the pigeon. The
headless body tumbled through the air and landed with a splat on
Melissa’s lap.
“Yuchhhhhh,” screeched Melissa. “Yuchhhhhh and double yuchhhhhh.”
