Chapter 37 : Melissa tries to teach a three headed dog new
tricks. |
 |
Cerberus was dreaming about
skeletons when he was rudely awoken by the children rushing down
the stairs. He believed that he was still guarding the
underworld. He thought the children were trying to escape from
the eternal damnation of hell. It was his duty to stop them. It
was his greatest desire to destroy them slowly and painfully. He
sprung into action. Saliva spraying from his mouths, he leapt
the stairs nine at a time.
“This way,” yelled Simon, taking a left at the foot of the
stairs.
Ross followed but Melissa had fallen behind. As she reached the
last few stairs Cerberus bounded past. Growling and snarling, he
turned to face her. Melissa tried the tricks you should usually
try when confronted by a killer three-headed dog. In her
friendliest voice she said, “who’s a good doggy,” and “nice
puppy lie down and I’ll tickle your tummy.” But it was no
use—Cerberus had already set his heart on playing jigsaw with
her bones.
Slowly Melissa backed up the stairs again. Step by step Cerberus
followed her—shepherding her up to his ‘underworld’ and a
torturous death. |
